Community Hospitals Serving Covid-19 Patients



Under routine circumstances, patients go to the hospital and can usually expect to have visitors as well as creature comforts like flower delivery and ample plugs for cell phones and iPads. Unfortunately, a trip to the hospital for Covid-19 will not be routine circumstances for either patients or their family.


First, because the virus is highly contagious and can be deadly, patients who are being treated for the disease must go into isolation to protect others. While it's not ideal, for patients with mild to moderate symptoms, isolation at home is the best option. When circumstances prevent home isolation, local governments are setting up ________ and field hospitals to provide patients dedicated space to receive treatment and recover.


Because most patients have mild to moderate symptoms, and because of the average length of active symptoms, patients who go to _____________ or field hospitals can expect to spend 14 days in isolation from the point of diagnosis to the point they are fully recovered and receive a doctor's OK to return to their normal lives.
